I thoroughly enjoyed the Heat’s losing streak, even though I am sick of all the press they get, at least it was negative. Now, after a modest two game winning streak, everyone is jumping back on Miami’s band wagon. Yes, they beat the Lakers, but Los Angeles is another team that has been hot and cold and has shown they can get beat by anyone on any given night (yes, even the Cavaliers). The Heat are just another team. They are among the NBA’s top six or seven teams. So then why do they get 90% of the media’s attention? Who cares that they have a young talented big three, there are better teams this year that are flying under the radar.
Look at the San Antonio Spurs, the seemingly least favorite team in the NBA. It’s not because everyone dislikes them, it’s because no one cares about an old team that plays basketball hard and wins due to perfecting the fundamentals. It’s sad that no one will pay attention to a team if there aren’t alley-oops or have players in their 20’s running down court on the fast break to finish with a backboard shattering slam. What is not to like about Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker, and of course the King Spur, Tim Duncan? How come it isn’t exciting to have perfect role players like Matt Bonner who is leading the league in 3-point percentage at 51.5%? I mean, he is basically a better Brian Scalabrine, and we all love and adore that red-headed man.
I vote that NBA fans quit paying attention to every play, every press conference and tweet by a Miami Heat player. Instead, watch the Spurs, or the Celtics, maybe you’ll learn a thing or two about the way basketball should be played and how championships are won in June, not August.
