A quick glance at the scoreboard and one would think Sunday at Zimmerman Stadium was a slug-fest between North Central and Carthage. Instead, the real story was the combined nine errors, and two very solid outings by the starting pitchers.
Nate Arenson, coming into the game with a 5.47 era through five appearances, settled down after a three run opening frame by the Red Men. The opposing pitcher, Eric Rohe, held the Cardinals in check for the majority of the game, giving up 7 runs with only one of them being earned.
The winning hit came in extra innings as shortstop Kyle Pusateri hit a solo shot in the top of the tenth for the deciding run after making a crucial error to allow the Cardinals to tie it up in the bottom of the ninth.
The Cardinals took only one of the three games over the weekend versus Carthage. Both teams appear to be in the race to take home the conference title come seasons end.
