If you’re not a hockey fan and have not tuned in to any of this year’s playoffs thus far, you’re missing out. No, I’m not simply talking about the Blackhawk’s thrilling overtime victory to remarkably even up their series. This year’s playoffs have been unbelievable thus far. From the Flyers beating the Bruins in double overtime to take a three-two series lead just two days after winning in overtime to even their series up, to the Capitals and Penguins both notching double overtime victories on the same night last Wednesday; this year has been one of a kind.
Every series has had a unique storyline. The Blackhawks are on a quest to come back form down three games to zero while Capitals attempted (and succeeded) to avoid another first round upset. We have already seen one of the best goals ever, not simply in the playoffs, but ever by Bobby Ryan of the Anaheim Ducks. He will always be remembered for this goal, even though his team is heading home early.
The excitement thus far can only be explained by one thing, parody.
Heading into the playoffs, the NHL’s one dominant team was the Vancouver Canucks. After their three to nothing start, many thought they would coast into the next round and beyond. Yet the defending Stanley Cup champions have caused fits for goalie Roberto Luongo and should have the entire momentum heading into their colossal game seven bout.
Many thought that the Flyers would rise up in the playoffs and smoke the Sabres but that series will be decided in seven. The Lightning and Kings both found themselves in three to one holes heading into their game five match-ups. Both teams refused to quit and forced game sixes. With the first round nearing its close, here’s some advice, turn on your television and watch some hockey because the best is yet to come.
